The Slovakia international celebrates his birthday in pre-season training with the Partenopei.

“This is a special day for him, but time really does fly, as he was 17 when he arrived in Italy and now he’s 30,” agent Juraj Venglos told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

“He came to Napoli after three years in Brescia, so he only had one transfer in Italy and that’s quite an achievement. He is the proud captain of this Napoli side and became a top player here.

“We all hope this can be an important season for him and for Napoli. I daren’t even imagine what could happen in the city if Marek and Napoli were to win the Scudetto. I know it’ll be difficult and they’ve been trying for years, but I hope this can be the right year.

“His rapport with Maurizio Sarri was excellent from the start, because Marek immediately understood his style of football. They get along very well.

“This season he’ll probably manage to beat Diego Maradona’s goals record for Napoli, but the most important thing is that he’s healthy.

“In my view there is a concrete possibility he could join the directorial staff after retirement, but he wants to play for at least another five years.

“His rapport with Napoli is something very special.”
