Agent Davide Lippi has revealed Napoli coach Gennaro Gattuso already tried to sign Matteo Politano when he was at Milan.

The former Inter forward moved to the San Paolo in January during Gattuso’s first transfer window as coach of the Partenopei.

Politano’s agent Lippi has claimed it wasn’t the first time the former Rossoneri midfielder tried to get the 26-year-old winger and expects the former Giallorossi youngster to achieve ‘great things’ in Naples.

Politano’s agent Lippi has claimed it wasn’t the first time the former Rossoneri midfielder tried to get the 26-year-old winger and expects the former Giallorossi youngster to achieve ‘great things’ in Naples.

“We all hope that Politano can express his full potential in the second half of the season,” Lippi told Radio Punto Nuovo. “But when you change clubs in January, you need some time.

“Now, he has settled, he loves it all, from the city to the dressing room. He only needs to get back on the pitch and work with the ball again, like everyone else.

“He can do great things in these remaining months of the championship. Gattuso wanted Politano already at Milan.

“In my opinion, he played an amazing first season at Inter, now he knows he is in a great team and has to play with the champions. Since coming through the academy at Roma, he is used to fight for his place everywhere. In Perugia, as much as in Pescara, Sassuolo and at Inter.

“He will do great things in Naples too."
