Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed Napoli want to bring back Fabio Quagliarella and claimed that he rejected a €900m offer to sell the club.

Quagliarella was born in Naples and spent the 2009-10 campaign at the San Paolo, only being forced out by a stalker, while De Laurentiis has owned the Partenopei since 2004.

“I think he deserves this opportunity,” he told Corriere dello Sport.

“I don’t think it’ll be an economic issue for us or him. Rather, it’ll be a romantic solution for him to end his career in Naples after what happened to him last time.

“Now I’ll make you laugh: a gentleman approached me a few days ago with a friendly but cautious attitude.

“’You know, Aurelio, I have the opportunity to introduce you to a buyer who would like to offer you €900m.’

“I smiled and reiterated what I’ve said repeatedly, that Napoli aren’t for sale.

“I have no intention of running the risk of recreating the situations that led to our decline.

“Napoli only need a man with the ability to keep them on the right track.”

The 70-year-old was then asked about last season’s lost Scudetto.

“It doesn’t hurt us anymore because we won it morally,” he added.

“I know that title is ours. We achieved it with a wonderful style of play, recognised unanimously.

“But I also know that in football, there are external factors – not footballers or Coaches – that end up influencing things.

“When these factors are defeated and credibility can be talked about then certain things will stop happening.
