Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis wants to make two signings in January “but it’s not easy”.

The Partenopei are second in Serie A, just a point behind Inter, and many have suggested that some well-timed buys could push them to the Scudetto.

“If a great player wants to leave his club to come to Napoli in January then so be it,” De Laurentiis said in an interview with Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

“But it’s not easy. I’d like to make two signings, then if we could do three because we need them for June that would be even better.

“The thing I don’t like though, is that if you announce a signing for June, in January, the fans don't take it into account when the summer comes along.

“The other day I was in love with a player, and I was told he wouldn’t be for sale until the end of June. So I replied: ‘Get him for June!’

“To which my staff said ‘and the other one’? I said ‘get them both!’. But we can’t really do that, which sucks.

“[Sporting director Cristiano] Giuntoli and I have often repeated that we’ve reached such a high level that it’s difficult to improve the team.

“It’s not worth buying a 29-year-old, but the same for a 20-year-old, because the Coach won’t play them.

“That said, we still have to do some shopping!”

De Laurentiis then returned to a familiar topic, the dilapidated state of Stadio San Paolo.

“I’m forever grateful to our fans, despite the difficulties. The stadium, for example: the law is a disaster.

“We’ll try to remodel it with other functions if the mayor will give us the opportunity. Stadiums should be sold to the clubs for a symbolic Euro, and they can then make them productive.

“Firstly, the tickets cost too much, I’d never want the fans to pay so much, but unfortunately it’s not up to me.

“We have to create installations to entertain the fans for more than the 90 minutes, which would allow us to amortise the cost of maintenance.

“My duty is to reinforce Napoli. We’ve been in Europe for six years, but we’d like to stay in the Champions League for longer.

“Unfortunately there’s a lot of competition, but we have to improve in spite of that. In the summer, many didn’t believe in my choices, but they turned out to be the best.”
