Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis said “time’s up” for Maurizio Sarri to give a response on his future, but the Coach demands time.

The Partenopei set a new all-time club record of 91 points and become the first side in Serie A history to reach 90 points without winning the Scudetto.

“We deserved the Scudetto and we won the ‘real’ one. Next year maybe they’ll even give us the fake one,” De Laurentiis told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

“An era of three years is quite long and people imagine something has to change, whether players, a system or anything else…”

The President was asked if Sarri would remain amid interest from Chelsea and Zenit St Petersburg.

“I don’t know, you’d have to ask him… He always fobbed me off to his agent, who never gave me a reply. Time’s up! There are no more deadlines.

“We faced this problem in every way possible, now I have to worry about my responsibility for a club like Napoli that has been in Europe for nine consecutive seasons.

“We must go forward, without ifs and buts, without fear.”

When Sarri spoke to Rai Sport afterwards, he was told about the De Laurentiis comments.

“Time’s up? He is right to a degree, because planning has to be undertaken, but he’s the one who wants to change my contract.

“The fact is we don’t know what’s going to happen, because there are five or six players with release clauses in their contracts, so for a month we won’t know if they’ll continue or leave.”
