Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis wants a 'quick rise' to Serie A for Bari, calling for a rule forbidding ownership of two or more teams in the same League to be overturned.

The Partenopei chief has been chosen as the man to lead the revival of the Puglia club, who went bankrupt at the end of last season after losing in the Serie B play-offs.

The Biancorossi will reform and begin life again in Serie D, the fourth tier of Italian football, with De Laurentiis targeting a rapid rise up the Leagues.

The Biancorossi will reform and begin life again in Serie D, the fourth tier of Italian football, with De Laurentiis targeting a rapid rise up the Leagues.

“Bari have a long, 110-year history. Over these years there have been good seasons and others less so,” the film producer told a Press conference.

“We want a quick rise to try to get back into Serie A."

Current laws in Italy mean De Laurentiis would have to sell one of Napoli or Bari if they ever featured in the same League. However, the 69-year-old has other ideas.

“We also want to work on the rules that don’t permit you to have two teams in Serie A under the same ownership. We want a big change.”

De Laurentiis, chosen by Bari mayor Antonio Decaro as the club’s new President, added that their relationship did not get off to the best possible start.

“When they told me about Bari I was in Dimaro with the team [Napoli].

“The mayor called me but we didn’t have an easy relationship. I told him he was rude.

“I tried to call him for hours without receiving a response. After we spoke, we got on.

“Bari have their own history and they represent an area that I love.

“Napoli have their history and represent another area I love. We are together with the fans.”
