Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis confirms his club are close to signing Santiago Arias from PSV Eindhoven.

The Colombian full-back has been heavily linked with the Partenopei in recent weeks and it now appears a matter of time before he is confirmed as a San Paolo player.

“I think that we are now in the closing minutes. We are negotiating,” film producer De Laurentiis told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

“The strange thing is that we are currently negotiating with two players at the same time who play in the same role.”

With Arias set to arrive, his fellow defender Kalidou Koulibaly has been touted for a move to some of European football’s leading clubs.

However, De Laurentiis – who reportedly rejected a 100m bid from an unnamed club yesterday – insists the Senegal international has a contract.

“He has a contract. We will talk about it, as you do between friends.”

The Napoli patron believes Serie A is set for an exciting season ahead and is close to surpassing England’s Premier League as the most interesting in Europe.

“The enthusiasm of fans is not determined just by Napoli, who have been playing in Europefor nine years and competing in the top positions.

“Everyone is improving, there is a great revolution in football. Serie A is becoming the most interesting League in Europe.

“It’s not missing much before it overtakes the English League – at least in terms of interest, still not in terms of revenue.”
