Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has expressed his joy at Lorenzo Insigne’s inclusion in Italy’s World Cup squad.

The Partenopei man won what was widely reported as a three-way battle with Giuseppe Rossi and Mattia Destro to be Cesare Prandelli’s fifth forward in Brazil.

Speaking at a publicity event today, the film producer said the fact Insigne is Naples born and bred makes his feeling of happiness even greater.

“Seeing a Neapolitan boy’s dream come true can only give me joy,” De Laurentiis commented. “It’s a double joy because Lorenzo grew up with in the Azzurri [Napoli] academy.

“There is great happiness for him and for the club. I’m sure he will show his worth and that he will do very well with Italy.”

The San Paolo chief was also asked about how he thought Italy would do at the World Cup, as well as Napoli’s transfer plans for the summer.

“I’m not making predictions about the national team because you know me and you know I am very superstitious!

“All I will do is wish Prandelli and his players the best of luck.

“Napoli? As ever, we are a work in progress. We will be working hard and we are working to strengthen the squad.

“But above all, we give credit and our trust to Benitez, who is a great Coach who we put our faith in last year.”
