Serie A Presidents react to the failure to elect an FIGC President, with Napoli’s Aurelio De Laurentiis calling it “a waste of time”.

Today the delegates failed to agree on a new man to lead the Italian FA, so CONI will now appoint a commissioner until a new head can be elected.

“It was a waste of time, as I expected,” De Laurentiis told Gazzetta dello Sport after the voting.

“I knew it would end like this. Calcio has to be rebuilt from its foundations.”

Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero was perhaps even more scathing in his assessment.

“It was written that it would end up like this because there were three candidates.

“We need to postpone the election and find a mutual solution because the football world is watching and the ball should be at the centre of our world, not seats.

“It was a joke, now there will be a commissioner. I’m a bit cynical though, I think there was a plan to go in this direction.”

Urbano Cairo, the Torino owner, also commented.

“I expected an agreement between [Damiano] Tommasi and [Gabriele] Gravina. I wasn’t in favour of the commissioner, because I think it’s right to find a solution for the problems internally.

“If that’s what’s going to happen I’m disappointed, it’s certainly not what I hoped for.”
