Tammy Abraham was widely criticised by the Italian press after Roma’s 3-1 loss to Atalanta, with the Englishman being considered one of the worst on the pitch.

The 25-year-old striker hardly had an impact on proceedings at the Gewiss Stadium, only taking three shots, none of which were on target. Jose Mourinho’s side looked poor in Bergamo and failed to show much of note as they slumped to defeat, a result that could prove dire in the top four race.

Pressure has continued to mount on Abraham this season. The former Chelsea man did well in his debut campaign in Italy, scoring 27 goals across all competitions, but this year he’s only managed eight in 44 appearances, concerning the Giallorossi faithful.

Corriere dello Sport were clearly unimpressed with Abraham’s work for Roma in their loss to Atalanta now how “His bad mistake in the Giallorossi’s third allowed Atalanta’s first goal. He didn’t keep a ball, he had a good one in the first half and sent it into the Atalanta corner.”

La Gazzetta dello Sport’s review was briefer and possibly more damning, simply saying: “’He is no longer a talisman.”

Contracted to Roma until June 2026, there are already rumours that the club could look to cut their losses and sell Abraham in the summer.

Abraham’s ratings in the Italian newspapers

La Gazzetta dello Sport: 5

Corriere dello Sport: 4

Tuttosport: 4.5

  1. He’s a real great guy, but unfortunately he’s let us down this season. It may be wise to move him on, Belotti hasn’t been to great neither. Considering our campaign so far without attacking options, Mourinho has performed miracles.
