FIGC President Giancarlo Abete believes the financial crisis in Italian football “can be an opportunity to get the best out of young players.”
Serie A has been affected by the economic problems that swept through Europe and so transfer activity has been limited.
“We must turn the economic difficulties of our country, which are reflected in football too, into an opportunity to get the best out of our young players,” the Federation chief told Radio Kiss Kiss.
“Arrigo Sacchi said the same thing recently. Club balance sheets also have to be in order, even if that means big sacrifices.
“We cannot escape a sane equation between costs and income. The clubs must take this opportunity without thinking about being less competitive in the short-term.
“Over the last three years, 21 professional clubs have been made bankrupt. Now we must focus on giving certainty to those clubs who need to know the rules of the game.”
