Milan goalkeeper Cristian Abbiati reveals what the referee told him about the bizarre Celtic incident.

The Rossoneri won 2-0, but there was an odd moment when the referee awarded an indirect free kick inside the box.

It was thought this was down to a backpass, but replays and Abbiati confirm it was for picking it up after having already handled.

“I have been doing that for 20 years, so I never knew it was a foul. How many times does someone save a shot, then pick it up on the rebound? I didn’t see it as a ‘control’ of the ball, but oh well…” the goalkeeper told Sky Sport Italia.

Once again, Milan left it late to get a result and eventually emerged with a 2-0 victory.

“We played well and it wasn’t easy, as Celtic move very well in attack. We defended strongly and didn’t allow many scoring opportunities, knowing that sooner or later we would score. It was very important to get the three points tonight.

“I am not worried, as the attitude is the right one. We might have made a few mistakes, but we attacked and had several chances. When we lost the ball, we’d fight to get it back straight away, so this is the right approach.”
