The Diavolo had a nightmare beginning to the 2012-13 campaign, but they recovered to finish third in Serie A and qualify for the preliminary round of Europe’s premier club competition.

After a 1-1 draw at PSV Eindhoven last week, the Rossoneri secured progression to the group stages with a 3-0 San Siro triumph on Wednesday.

“We achieved our goal,” the veteran goalkeeper commented. “It’s the perfect end to the comeback that we started last season.

“We played as a team, like Milan. The loss to Verona at the weekend was not good, but we took to the pitch against PSV compact and focused.

“It wasn’t easy as PSV are a good team, but I think we deserved the result.”

The Champions League draw will take place today, but Abbiati’s desire to play PSG in order to “meet some old friends” can’t occur.

That is because Milan and Paris Saint-Germain are both in pot two.
