Lazio are top of the Europa League table after two matches, securing a 100 per cent record with a superior goal difference to Lyon, Tottenham, Anderlecht and Steaua Bucharest.

The Aquile have had the perfect start to their campaign under coach Marco Baroni, who at the age of 60 is in his first ever European experience as a tactician.

They swept Dynamo Kyiv aside 3-0 in the opener and this evening flattened Ligue 1 side OGC Nice 4-1 at the Stadio Olimpico.

That gives them six points from two games, but above all a goal difference of +6.

It means Lazio are top of the Europa League table, as they have a superior goal difference to the other teams who won both matches – namely Olympique Lyonnais at +5, Tottenham Hotspur and Steaua Bucharest at +4 and Anderlecht on +2.

Their city rivals Roma, on the other hand, have just one point from two games after a 1-1 home draw with Athletic Club and 1-0 defeat away to Swedish team Elfsborg.

They are currently in 27th position with a goal difference of -1 and if the tournament were to end today, the Giallorossi would be eliminated.

The top eight go directly into the Round of 16, the teams from 9-24 enter play-offs and from 25 down are knocked out of Europe.
