Milan defenders Davide Calabria and Malick Thiaw are both expected to sit out of Saturday’s Serie A clash match Venezia in San Siro, but the Rossoneri captain is aiming to be available for the midweek Champions League clash against Liverpool.

Milan lose Calabria to minor injury

According to Saturday morning’s updates, Calabria suffered a knock in training and has some bruising, so he will not be involved against Venezia on precautionary grounds. Summer signing Emerson Royal is expected to line up again in his absence.

Thiaw has not recovered from the sprained ankle that kept him out of the 2-2 draw with Lazio before the international break, and so he will also miss out.

Paulo Fonseca is expected to name a centre-back pairing of Strahinja Pavlovic and Matteo Gabbia, with Fikayo Tomori given a rest ahead of the midweek Champions League fixtures.

To cover the defensive absences, Fonseca is expected to call Milan Futuro defender Davide Bartesaghi up to the senior squad for the Venezia game.
