Reports from England claim that Newcastle United are only a step away from signing Milan defender Malick Thiaw after talks progressed in recent days.
The 22-year-old German centre back has been targeted by the Magpies for a number of weeks now and the Rossoneri are open to a sale, which would free up space for key target Strahinja Pavlovic, who is on the verge of completing a move to the Lombardy capital.
Thiaw has been with Milan since August 2022, when he arrived from Schalke 04 in a deal worth circa €8.8m. After a slow start, he became a regular feature of the defence alongside Fikayo Tomori, forming a strong partnership. His contract with the club lasts to June 2027.
Newcastle on cusp of Thiaw signing
HITC details how Newcastle are close to finalising a move for Thiaw after talks with Milan progressed over the last 72 hours and a deal could now be completed for around €40m including add-ons. The defender has already agreed a deal in principle with the Premier League club.
His departure would free up space in the squad for Pavlovic, allowing the Rossoneri to complete a deal with RB Salzburg.
Please god let this be true. PLEASE! 40M for the lanky wanderer would be epic.
It’s crazy lol, he had one good half season, and has been a bit flaky since. He’s not rubbish, he has potential for sure, but he’s definitely not worth 40 mil, so if we can get anywhere near that I’d take it in a heartbeat.
