Tuttosport editor Guido Vaciago wonders whether Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri is ‘in the right place at the right time’ while the Turin-based paper confirms Thiago Motta is the most likely replacement for the Livorno-born coach in 2024-25.
Allegri remains under pressure at Juventus despite Sunday’s 1-0 win over Fiorentina at the Allianz Stadium.
Their latest victory, the first since February, came with just 25% ball possession and Italy international Manuel Locatelli admitted after the final whistle that the Bianconeri play ‘ugly’ football in some matches.
Allegri’s contract with Juventus runs out in June 2025, but his future at the club seems increasingly certain and the first reports regarding his possible successor are starting to circulate.
Calciomercato.com reported on Sunday that the Bianconeri had reached a principle of agreement with Thiago Motta and Monday’s printed edition of Tuttosport on page seven claims more and more sources in the city of Bologna are convinced the ex-Italy international won’t extend his contract at the Stadio Dall’Ara, joining the Bianconeri instead.
The newspaper’s editor, Vaciago, analysed Allegri’s situation at Juventus, admitting that the Bianconeri are “ugly to watch” and “have been ugly for three years.”
“Juventus are not rich, so they don’t have many champions – noted Vaciago – still they could play better football. The problem is not to determine if Allegri is the right man (because some objective facts prove it) but whether he is in the right place at the right time, in a transitory Juventus, which, perhaps, are thinking about a different future.
What raises eyebrows is to see “no developments and always the same errors,” continued the journalist, “plus a miserable mentality that makes the team move 40 meters backwards after scoring the first goal.”
