Fiorentina director Joe Barone expects a ‘game full of intensity’ against Roma and admits the club could go for January reinforcements on the transfer market.

It kicks off at the Stadio Olimpico at 19.45 GMT.

The Viola have the risk of fatigue after being forced to play 120 minutes and a penalty shoot-out against Parma in the Coppa Italia on Wednesday evening.

Nico Gonzalez was rested for that match, but is still not fit enough to start this evening, though Jonathan Ikone returns after flu symptoms.

“Obviously, the atmosphere is passionate this evening and that is great for Italian football. We expect a game full of intensity and above all focus on the details,” Barone told DAZN.

Jose Mourinho has been in the headlines again for his comments about referees, but the Fiorentina chief is on full alert.

“We are convinced there are no distractions today and we believe in the system of referees and technology that in Italy are one of the best in the world. We’ll give our all and see what result comes out at the final whistle.”

Fiorentina have already qualified for the Conference League knockouts and will secure top spot, avoiding the play-offs, if they avoid defeat with Ferencvaros on Thursday.

Because they reached the Coppa Italia Final last season, they will also participate in the new four-team Supercoppa Italiana, which is scheduled for next month in Saudi Arabia, even if the precise dates are still up in the air.

“There are many games, we thank Saudi Arabia for the Supercoppa hosting, but we are still waiting to finalise the details of the fixture list,” added Barone.

“Fiorentina once again have the opportunity to play 60 games this season, so we want to make sure there are no injuries. We always expect something more from the whole group, including the directors and all of us behind the scenes. We are satisfied with the team that has been put together, we are ready if we need to intervene on the transfer market and are in constant contact with the coach to evaluate the situation.”
