Dusan Vlahovic was targeted by racist insults at the Stadio Franchi in Florence on Sunday and tension escalated when the striker gave his shirt to a fan in the stands after the final whistle.

Football Italia was among the accredited media at the Stadio Franchi where the Serbia international was introduced as a substitute in the second half of Juventus‘ eventual 1-0 win against Fiorentina.

He was welcomed by noisy boos from his ex-supporters, but trouble began after the final whistle when the 23-year-old gave his shirt to a fan in the stands.

Tension escalated as other Fiorentina supporters nearby insulted the striker and the fan who had received his gift, forcing stewards to intervene to calm the waters.

Some Fiorentina supporters in other sectors of the stadium called Vlahovic ‘gipsy’ and the 23-year-old replied while entering the tunnel by raising his thumb towards the Curva Fiesole and sarcastically clapping Viola fans.

He replied on social media too, with two Instagram stories posted after the final whistle.

  1. Pathetic behavior from Fiorentina supporters. No such thing aa loyalty in football anymore. There will be no more Baresis, Maldinis, Del Pieros or Tottis. Players have every right to make their decisions. Players come & go, but the clubs will always remain.
