Juventus need to bolster their midfield in the January transfer window and one player they’re monitoring closely is Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips, reports detail.
The Bianconeri’s midfield has been severely weakened in recent weeks as a result of off-pitch issues, with Paul Pogba at risk of a long ban following a failed doping test and Nicolo Fagioli being given a seven-month suspension for his role in the Serie A betting scandal.
Juventus’ primary target in January is Tottenham’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who has hardly featured this season under new Spurs coach Ange Postecoglou. The North London side want €30m for the 28-year-old, but Bianconeri intermediaries are working on trying to set up a loan deal with a buy option.
As reported by Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com, Juventus are also keeping a close eye on Phillips, who is expected to leave Manchester City in the coming transfer window. The preferred formula of a deal would again be a loan with a buy option.
The Englishman is hardly a part of Pep Guardiola’s star-studded squad, seeing just 167 minutes of action this season, and will likely leave in January in order to find more regular playing time ahead of next summer’s European Championship.
