Nicolò Fagioli insists newspapers write ‘rubbish’ to put him in a ‘bad light’ and claims he will ‘speak soon.’
The Juventus midfielder has received a seven-month ban after agreeing on a plea bargain with FIGC Prosecutor Giuseppe Chiné.
Fagioli has confirmed he gambled on football matches but never placed bets on Cremonese or Juventus, the only two clubs he’s been playing for in his career.
The 22-year-old posted two Instagram stories overnight after a seven-month suspension was confirmed on Tuesday.
“I thought I’d start by apologising not only to Juventus fans but also to all football fans worldwide for my naive error,” he said.
“On the other hand, I am obliged to start with the rubbish newspapers write about me to put me in a bad light with thousands of falsehoods or, maybe, to get more views. I will speak soon.”
La Gazzetta dello Sport and Tuttosport have published the documents of Fagioli’s interrogation by the FIGC Prosecutor from September 2023.
The Juventus midfielder allegedly said he had accumulated debts and had been threatened by owners of illegal betting platforms. He also revealed the involvement of Sandro Tonali who reportedly explained to him how to use an app to place illicit bets in 2021.
