Napoli coach Rudi Garcia is facing furious criticism after the defeat to Fiorentina, as some of his substitutions were considered outright bizarre.

The unusual changes started in the first half when Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa went off injured, so he was replaced by Giacomo Raspadori in midfield.

When Matteo Politano was substituted, Raspadori moved into his role on the right of the trident attack.

Already this season, Jesper Lindstrom has played on the right and the left, while today Kvicha Kvaratskhelia also switched wings to the right.

Above all, Garcia stunned when with Napoli trailing 2-1 to Fiorentina, he took off pillars of the team Victor Osimhen, Stanislav Lobotka and Piotr Zielinski.

It was at the 77th minute, introducing Lindstrom, Giovanni Simeone and Gianluca Gaetano.

Napoli were jeered off the field at the final whistle of what turned into a 3-1 defeat, as Nico Gonzalez scored the third for Fiorentina in stoppages.

“The memorable triple substitution is pure improvisation,” wrote Sportitalia director Alfredo Pedullà.

“You can see Vincenzo Italiano’s plan at Fiorentina, just as you cannot see any Garcia plan at Napoli. He should show some humility and at least realise that. They will not wait for eternity.”

  1. Napoli fans r blind to the fact that oshimen is useless unless the ball is on his head or foot not much will happen. Most italian defenses have figured out the strategy and have put up defenses. He is u cannot rely on him anymore.
