L’Equipe claim that Fabio Grosso is now the favourite to take over from Laurent Blanc at Olympique Lyonnais, as negotiations with Gennaro Gattuso faltered.
Blanc was fired this week after a disastrous start to the Ligue 1 season, which saw his team manage one point from three rounds.
Gattuso had been in advanced negotiations and seemed all set to be hired on Monday, but there was a sudden change in the atmosphere yesterday when the club owner reportedly disliked the arrangement.
Now it is suggested a different Italian will take on the Lyon bench, specifically former Frosinone coach Grosso.
He took Frosinone to promotion by winning the Serie B title last season, but then walked away from the club, seeking new challenges.
It would seem he has found it in Olympique Lyonnais, which would also be a return for him, having played there from 2007 to 2009.
The 45-year-old began coaching at the Juventus youth academy in 2013, moving on to Bari, Verona, Brescia, FC Sion and Frosinone.
