Two teams looking for their first win of the Serie A season face off here and these Cagliari vs. Udinesepredictions weigh up their chances. Both sides sit in the bottom four and will be keen to mark the end of the international break with three points.
1 – Cagliari to win – 19/10
2 – Under 2.5 goals scored – 10/13
3 – Both teams not to score – 11/10
4 – Andrea Petagna to score – 7/2
5 – A draw at full-time – 5/2
Cagliari welcome Udinese to Sardinia on Sunday morning, with both sides in desperate need of a win this weekend. The newly promoted hosts have lost two of their first three games, with their visitors faring little better, with two draws to their name.
It comes as little surprise that Carlo Ranieri’s side has had a tough start to the campaign, having welcomed a significant number of new players over the summer. The likes of Andrea Petagna, Jakub Jankto, Ibrahim Sulemana and Eldor Shorumodov must all be integrated into the squad in order to bring them to Serie A standard.
With three games under their belts, and having scored the first goal of the campaign against Bologna before the international break, the home side will have high hopes for Sunday’s clash at the Sardegna Arena. Despite the bookmakers viewing them as underdogs, we tip the hosts to defy the odds and secure their first win of the season.
That having been said, all the indicators point towards a closely fought encounter. Neither side has been among the goals in the early stages of the season, with each scoring just once. As a result, a wager on under 2.5 goals scored and on just one team to do so, could well pay off.
The lack of efficiency in front of goal could largely be put down to a changed strike force for both teams. Udinese have brought in Lorenzo Lucca, Kienan Davis and Brenner over the summer with all three facing their first full season in Serie A and requiring time to acclimatise to the league.
Cagliari were similarly busy in making offensive reinforcements, but in Andrea Petagna and Eldor Shomurodov, they have gained some Italian topflight experience. For this reason, we back the former Napoli striker to break the deadlock on Sunday, scoring his team’s second goal of the season.

Cagliari (4-4-2): Radunovic; Zappa, Dossena, Wieteska, Augello; Nanez, Kakari, Makoumbou, Jankto; Luvumbo, Shomurodov
Udinese (3-5-2): Silvestri; Kabasele, Bijol, Perez; Ferreira, Samardzic, Walace, Lovric; Thauvin, Lucca
Claudio Ranieri may look to hand Eldor Shomurodov his first start for Cagliari this weekend, with Gianluca Lapadula and Leonardo Pavoletti both struggling for fitness. Andrea Petagna may also get the nod however the coach appears to prefer Zito Luvumbo upfront.
Few changes are expected from Andrea Sottil’s side, with the likes of Brenner, Adam Masina, Gerard Deulofeu, Kingsely Ehizibue and Enzo Ebosse still sidelined through injury. Summer signing Lorenzo Lucca is expected to retain his position up front, while Lazar Samardzic will feature in midfield.
