Four current Serie A players have been included on the shortlist for the 2023 Ballon d’Or award, tipped by many as being the most prestigious individual award in world football.

Inter have two representatives nominated for the award, Nicolo Barella and Lautaro Martinez, while Napoli duo Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia have also been recognised.

Two former Serie A players have also been included in the list, namely Manchester United’s Andre Onana and Bayern Munich’s Kim Min-jae, both of whom left Inter and Napoli respectively this summer.

That makes three nominees from the Inter squad that reached the Champions League final under Simone Inzaghi in 2022-23, and three from Napoli, the Scudetto winners under current Italy national team coach Luciano Spalletti.

Onana is up for two individual awards this year, having also been included in the list of goalkeepers up for the Yachine Trophy. He is joined on that list by Milan stopper Mike Maignan.

Elsewhere, former Atalanta and current Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund is also up for the Kopa Trophy, an award handed to the best player aged under 21.

The Ballon d’Or ceremony will take place in Paris on October 30.
