Roma legend Bruno Conti will be on the bench for the Serie A season opener against Salernitana, as both Jose Mourinho and his assistant manager are suspended.

The campaign kicks off for them on Sunday at 17.30 UK time (16.30 GMT).

However, Mourinho will not be on the touchline at the Stadio Olimpico, nor will his assistant manager Salvatore Foti, as they both sit out bans for insulting the officials last term.

Next in line would be Stefano Rapetti, but he does not have the requisite coaching badges for Serie A matches, so Sky Sport Italia confirm that Conti will be the de facto coach for the day.

It is a return for the director, who had been the caretaker manager for three months in 2004-05.

There are other absentees for Roma too, as Paulo Dybala and Lorenzo Pellegrini are also suspended, while Marash Kumbulla and Tammy Abraham are out with anterior cruciate ligament injuries.
