Chelsea have released their home kit for the 2023-24 season, starring Roberto Di Matteo as one of the models and including a nod to the late Gianluca Vialli.

The Premier League heavyweights’ new Nike strip is inspired by the 1990s era, with Di Matteo and Dennis Wise chosen to model the kit on the club’s social media platforms, alongside a handful of men’s and women’s first team players.

Di Matteo spent the final six years of his playing career at Stamford Bridge, before returning as assistant to coach Andre Villas-Boas in 2011.

Later that season, Di Matteo took over as interim following Villas-Boas’ sacking and eventually led the team to a historic Champions League and FA Cup-winning campaign.

In the background of some of the promotional shots from their kit release, some of Chelsea’s previous shirts from the 90s are hung up on display, with two former players’ names printed on the back.

Those names were Vialli and Frank Leboeuf. The iconic former centre-forward and ex-Azzurri assistant coach, who also finished his playing career in West London, would have celebrated his 59th birthday on Sunday.
