The degree to which Milan are dependent on Rafael Leao is made painfully apparent by a look at the statistics, as they have never won in his absence this season.

The Champions League semi-final kicks off this evening at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT).

The Rossoneri lost the first leg 2-0 and Leao was not even in the squad due to a muscular injury.

Stefano Pioli does have the Portugal international back for tonight’s decider and he is expected to be in the starting XI.

Leao’s importance to Milan cannot be underestimated, especially in the current campaign.

In all competition this season, Milan won only one game in which Leao was not in the starting XI.

To hammer the home point even more, that lone victory was a 4-1 result against Monza which saw Leao come off the bench as a substitute in the second half and score the last goal.

He was suspended for the 2-1 defeat to Napoli in September 2022, banned again for the 2-1 loss to Fiorentina in March 2023.

Injury ruled him out of the 2-0 first leg result with Inter in the Champions League, while he came off the bench against Torino in the Coppa Italia Round of 16.

Leao was also a substitute in the 0-0 draw away to Cremonese, 5-2 defeat to Sassuolo, 1-0 loss to Inter in February 2023, 0-0 with Empoli, 1-1 at Bologna and the 1-1 with Cremonese.
