VAR stepped in during the Champions League semi-final, as Inter saw a penalty revoked after an on-field review, because there was no Milan foul on Lautaro Martinez.

The incident occurred when the Nerazzurri were already leading 2-0 at San Siro this evening with goals from Edin Dzeko and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Lautaro Martinez turned Simon Kjaer on a throw-in and went down as he tried to squirm between the Dane and Fikayo Tomori.

Spanish referee Jesus Gil Manzano pointed to the spot, but was called over to the On-Field Review monitor by his VAR Juan Martinez Munuera.

Both officials agreed upon reviewing the footage that neither Kjaer nor Tomori had fouled Lautaro Martinez, who simply tried to go through a gap that wasn’t there and then lost his footing.
