After Milan drew Napoli and Inter got Benfica in the Champions League quarter-final draw, there will be a slight rearrangement in fixture scheduling, due to the stadium share of the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

Inter were the first of the Italian sides out of the hat in the quarter-final draw on Friday morning, selected to play against Benfica at home in the first leg in April.

Shortly afterwards, Milan were drawn against Napoli and were also due to be the home side in the first leg.

UEFA regulations state that two Champions League matches cannot be played in the same stadium within the space of 24 hours.

Ergo, Milan and Inter will not be able to play at home in the same round of Champions League fixtures given that both the first and second legs are due to be played on consecutive days.

During the group stages of the Champions League, Milan and Inter were scheduled to play their home matches on alternating weeks.  With only eight sides left standing and only one week of fixtures per round, that is no longer possible at this stage of the competition.

The decision on who got to keep their quarter-final first-leg home tie was decided on last year’s domestic league standings.

Given that Milan won the Scudetto in 2021-22 and Inter finished third, the Rossoneri get to keep their original fixtures, whilst the Nerazzuri will have to slightly rearrange.

The first legs of the quarter-finals will take place on April 11 and 12.
