Lazio defender Alessio Romagnoli has been diagnosed with a low-grade tear to the left femoral bicep after pulling up during the 2-0 defeat to Atalanta.

The former Milan, Sampdoria and Roma centre-back suddenly stopped short while running after Rasmus Hojlund and clutched his left hamstring, immediately calling for a substitution.

It looks as if he managed to stop before doing further damage, because a statement from Lazio confirms tests at the Paideia clinic today showed only a low-grade lesion to the femoral bicep in his left thigh.

More tests are planned over the next few days to have a better idea of how long Romagnoli will be out of action for.

With this type of injury, it should be at least two to three weeks at a minimum.

That means missing out on some big games for Lazio, including both legs of the Europa Conference League play-off against CFR Cluj on February 16 and 23.

There is also a Serie A showdown coming up with Napoli on March 3, but Romagnoli hopes to return for the Derby della Capitale with Roma on March 19.
