Atalanta and Netherlands international Hans Hateboer has gone under the knife after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee and is out for the rest of the season.

The wing-back badly sprained his knee during Saturday’s 2-0 victory away to Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico and it was immediately clear that it was a serious injury.

He was diagnosed with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in the right knee and had surgery today at the Villa Stuart clinic in Rome, performed by specialist Professor Pierpaolo Mariani.

Hateboer had 19 appearances this season for Atalanta between Serie A and the Coppa Italia, scoring two goals and providing an assist.

This type of injury usually requires at least six months out, so the season is already over for him.

The 29-year-old first joined Atalanta from FC Groningen in January 2017 and in 213 competitive appearances for the club, he contributed 12 goals and 20 assists.
