Roma have reportedly renewed the contract of talented teenager Cristian Volpato, placing faith in the Australian-Italian.
The 18-year-old midfielder joined the club’s Under-17 squad in January 2020 from Western Sydney Wanderers youth system in a deal worth around €116,000. Volpato made his first team debut under Jose Mourinho last season, playing a handful of minutes across three Serie A games, where he found his first goal in a 2-2 draw with Hellas Verona.
As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma believe in Volpato’s potential and have extended his contract by two years to 2026, confirming their trust in the teenager. Volpato currently alternates between the first team and Primavera squad, playing 15 minutes of the 2-1 loss to Ludogorets in the Europa League earlier this season.
In the summer, the 18-year-old could have been part of a deal signing Davide Frattesi from Sassuolo, but Roma refused this idea, not wanting to lose Volpato. The teenager also had offers from other clubs in Serie A and Serie B, but the Giallorossi were unconvinced and decided to retain him.
