La Gazzetta dello Sport confirms Nicolò Zaniolo was surprised not to be included in the Italy squad, especially because CT Roberto Mancini didn’t even call him to explain his decision.

The Roma starlet has been snubbed from the Azzurri’s squad for Nations League games against England and Hungary and multiple reports in Italy suggest Zaniolo was surprised by Mancini’s decision.

La Gazzetta dello Sport adds one more detail claiming that ‘Mancio’ didn’t even explain his choice to the player, leaving him at home and calling Manolo Gabbiadini instead.

Zaniolo made his senior Azzurri debut under Mancini in March 2019 and has amassed two goals in nine appearances with the national team.

However, he hadn’t been included in the Euro 2020 squad last year and was sent to the stands for Italy’s World Cup play-off semi-final against North Macedonia in March.

Zaniolo’s last competitive appearance with the Azzurri was in the following third-place play-off against Turkey on March 29, 2022.

  1. the reason why mancini didn’t call zaniolo simply because he doesn’t like him!
mancini takes personal reasons for not calling! mancini is not the right coach for italy national team.

  2. Mancina wants Zaniolo to up his training and be serious in games. There are more games to come, he actually needs to up his game and be on the same platform with the likes of Real Madrid Vini, Rodrigo and many more! Our expectations for Zaniolo to hit the top had long been delayed. Thus Mancini’s decision to left him out of the square is a call for him to improve and put more seriousness in to the game. We expect greater things from him!
