A video that has become viral on social media shows Samir Handanovic handling a back-pass from Marcelo Brozovic, but there’s a reason why Roma were not awarded an indirect free-kick.

The incident happened in the second half of Inter‘s Coppa Italia clash against Roma last night.

Brozovic appeared to pass the ball to Handanovic, who collected the ball and resumed the play.

Brozovic looked at the referee who waved to play on, with Roma players who didn’t protest.

Hundreds of fans have shared the video on Twitter, with many asking why Roma were not awarded an indirect free-kick.

The reason could be that Nicolò Zaniolo slightly touched the ball trying to intercept Brozovic’s pass, meaning Handanovic was free to handle it.

  1. @MilAnwizz,
Nah. Had it been a mistake, Zaniolo & I would’ve rolled on the ground in protest.😉
This viewing angle is tricking us: Nico surely touched the ball.
