Genoa are looking to bring in former Hertha Berlin coach Bruno Labbadia to replace the dismissed Andriy Shevchenko.

The Ukrainian coach was let go after only nine league games in charge, picking up only three points in that time. Under-17 coach Abdoulay Konko will oversee Monday’s match against Fiorentina and the club hope to secure a Shevchenko replacement before the following game.

As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Labbadia is Genoa’s favourite to fill their vacant head coaching role. The 55-year-old German is currently out of work following his dismissal from Hertha Berlin 12 months ago and he’ll be looking to take the next step in his career in Liguria.

There was tension in the Genoa camp this morning between Shevchenko and the club’s management, with the Ukrainian wanting Aleksei Miranchuk and Nadiem Amiri to be signed immediately. This tension was the final straw and so the coach’s fate was sealed in the Ligurian capital.
