Empoli have officially announced Lorenzo Tonelliβs return from Sampdoria.
The 31-year-old defender leaves the Blucerchiati and returns to Empoli, where he graduated from the academy in 2010.
Tonelli joined Napoli in July 2016 and joined Sampdoria, initially on loan, two years later. He then made a permanent move to the Marassi in September 2020.
The centre-back has now re-joined his boyhood club after three seasons with Samp and has signed a deal until June 2023 with an option for a further year.
Tonelli previously played 173 competitive games with Empoli and collected 54 games in Serie A during his first stint with the club.
He returns after having played 112 games in total in the top flight, scoring 12 goals in the process.
