Lorenzo Insigne Euro 2020

Tottenham and Barcelona have reportedly contacted Lorenzo Insigne’s agent, but Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis wants the Partenopei captain to extend his stay at the club.

Insigne’s contract at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona expires in June 2022 and according to Il Corriere dello Sport, Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona have contacted the player’s agent although official negotiations have not begun yet.

The Rome-based paper reports De Laurentiis is enjoying Insigne’s performances at UEFA Euro 2020 and praised the 30-year-old saying: “He scored a fantastic goal against Belgium, he was always focused and very efficient.”

Napoli’s priority is to extend the contract of their captain, but negotiations between the two parties will be lengthy.

Insigne, in fact, wants a pay rise and earn more than his current €5m-a-year wages, while Napoli may be forced to offer him a lower salary because of the impact of the COVID pandemic on the club’s finances.

As of today, there are no meetings scheduled between the player’s agent and the Partenopei. Napoli want Insigne to extend his stay at the club, but it can’t be taken for granted they’ll manage to reach an agreement.
