Napoli have quashed the reports of a confrontation in the dressing room between coach Gennaro Gattuso and some of the players. ‘Completely invented’.

The sports pages in Italy claimed Gattuso used harsh and hurtful words as he criticised his players for their performances and Il Messaggero has claimed the Partenopei could decide on a new retreat ahead of the Europa League match against Rijeka.

Il Corriere dello Sport writes about a ‘hard confrontation’ between Gattuso and the players, and the ‘risk of revolt one year after the mutiny’.

The players reportedly didn’t react well to the criticism after a 3-1 defeat to Milan at the San Paolo.

But the Azzurri have denied the reports and claim the stories are made up, releasing an official statement this morning.

“On some sites yesterday and in some newspapers today, the story, completely invented, suddenly appeared,” Napoli wrote in a statement.

“About a heated argument between the Napoli players and Rino Gattuso allegedly took place. We are dealing with a story without any truth.”
