Verona goalkeeper Marco Silvestri has no regrets about his spell at Leeds and reveals a secret behind Ibrahimovic’s missed penalty against Hellas.
The Swede failed to convert a penalty against Verona before the break with Silvestri who teased him saying: ‘You missed the last one, right?’.
"I told him ‘You opened the last one wrong’ twice. I wanted him not to shoot in the same direction of the last penalty he had missed," Silvestri told Sky Sport.
“In my opinion if he had chosen that part he would have not missed it.”
Ibra had fluffed another penalty against Slavia Praha in Europa League a few weeks earlier.
“I thought about it for a second before I told him, I had nothing to lose and I went for it," Silvestri continued.
“I got instinctive, I saw him very focused and I tried to make him shoot where he likes the most, on my right. If he had chosen my left I would never have saved it.
“The first thing I was told when I was young was to try to see the striker’s sights and understand where he would kick the penalty.
“I study the penalties on tv with my wife, she listens to me. I used to support Milan when I was a kid, I grew up as a milanista,” he added.
Silvestri played for Leeds from 2014 until 2017.
“My career was special because I left Italy when I was young.
"I had just made my Serie A debut [when I joined Leeds], I was more mature when I returned. I don’t know if I was wrong to go abroad, maybe I wasn’t ready to play in Serie A at that time."
