Roma have been in takeover negotiations with a South American conglomerate ‘for months,’ claims an intermediary working on their talks with Edinson Cavani.

The club was on the verge of being sold to The Friedkin Group before the COVID crisis hit, changing the valuation of football teams and therefore also of the offer on the table.

That avenue has seemingly now been abandoned by Roma President Jim Pallotta, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t still looking for investors, and they could well come from a different continent.

“The South American conglomerate are trying to buy Roma,” intermediary Gaston Fernandez told Calciomercato.it.

“If the operation should go through, then they’ll try to bring Cavani to the Giallorossi too. I can confirm that, although at the moment there are no additional developments.

“As far as I am concerned, there is no contact between Cavani and the current Roma directors. I am working as an intermediary with the group that wants to buy Roma and with Cavani’s agent, Walter Guglielmone.

“It’s a long process, the negotiations for the takeover have been going on for months, but I can’t get into details right now. I can assure you they are trying to finalise the deal as soon as possible, so they can bring Cavani to Italy during the summer transfer session.”

Uruguay international Cavani is a free agent after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain ran down, so technically could arrive even after the window has shut.

“I am not Edinson’s agent, but I can only imagine a player like him has received many offers.”
