Fiorentina failed to build on their win at Parma as they were held to a goalless draw by Cagliari last night.

However, it was not through a lack of trying as Iachini’s side hit the woodwork and had 16 attempts on goal.

“We could’ve scored because we had chances, even if it was a tiring game,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“We started with three forwards, hoping to make an immediate impact. We hit the woodwork for the fifth time in five games and Cragno made some excellent saves.

“We were made to suffer in a couple of dangerous situations because Cagliari have quality, so we had to be careful, but the team tried to score until the final whistle, with Kouame too.

“We tried everything and more, you feel fatigue playing every three days and we’re lacking something in our finishing.

“We’re trying everything to score, but unfortunately we haven’t been able to.”

Chiesa was brought off at the start of the second half, despite the Viola chasing a goal.

“There was nothing in particular with him. The match became complicated for him because of his yellow card.

“Federico’s put in good performances, but perhaps the fear of the second yellow made him cautious and apprehensive.

“I preferred not to risk going down to 10 men because that would’ve been dangerous here.

“We did our best, but we must be better in front of goal, given we had 16 attempts.”

On the flip side, Kouame was finally able to make his debut for the club, six months since signing from Genoa.

“I’m happy to see him again after his long layoff, now let’s see what he can do: we’re monitoring it from time to time.

“When an injury is as problematic as his was, the player must be reinstated gradually. He can certainly give us a big hand.”
