Roma star Nicolò Zaniolo was observed by Manchester United during Italy's 9-1 win over Armenia on Monday night, claims Il Messaggero newspaper.

Zaniolo scored twice for the Azzurri at the Stadio Renzo Barbera, and his performance was observed by emissaries from the English club.

The Rome daily says that as the club are in discussions over a permanent move for Chris Smalling, a deal for the 20-year-old might also be instigated in the same talks.
