“We built a large squad precisely so that we could be competitive in all three tournaments. The club cares a great deal about all these competitions, but even more so in the Europa League, as we want to go as far as possible,” the director of sport told Sky Sport Italia.

“It represents a good showcase for those who haven’t had as much playing time so far to prove they deserve to be in the line-up more often.”

Petrachi was asked about the reported FIGC investigation into claims he was already working for Roma when still under contract with Torino this summer.

“Unfortunately, after the Henrikh Mkhitaryan Press conference, I didn’t make any denial because it seemed obvious that I said May instead of June by mistake.

“It was slip of the tongue, but Tuttosport – a newspaper that never loved me in 11 years working at Torino – made a big story out of nothing.

“I have not received any official notice of an investigation. I simply misspoke, that’s all there is to it. We ought to focus our attention on more important issues in football, but I have no problems answering questions if I am called to. I have no skeletons in my closet.”
