New York City FC were the first club to be credited with an interest in De Rossi, but Corriere dello Sport warns they face strong competition from the trio.

City tried to sign the midfielder earlier in his career, while PSG already swooped in for his former Italy teammate Gianluigi Buffon last summer.

Tuttomercatoweb goes into more detail about Boca’s interest, explaining he has ‘never hidden his affection’ for the Argentine outfit and that their sporting director – ex-Giallorossi defender Nicolas Burdisso – is ‘trying’ to make a deal happen.

Meanwhile, Il Corriere claims Roma President James Pallotta made the 35-year-old a last-ditch offer of a pay-as-you-play contract on Tuesday evening.

However, it would have reached De Rossi too late as he had already announced at a Press conference that he would be leaving the Olimpico.

News of the veteran’s exit has particularly infuriated Lupi ultras, who scattered banners taking aim at the club throughout the capital.

“Children of Rome, captains and icons. Here’s the respect and love that this club could never have,” read one.

Another contained the sentence: “A pig of a President and an incompetent club. DDR, forever in the hearts of your people.”

The last one was dedicated to only De Rossi, outside his home in Castel Sant’Angelo, simply reading: “DDR, our pride.”
