A Serie B match has been postponed after Lecce midfielder Manuel Scavone collapsed before regaining consciousness.

The Lecce player took a blow to the head in a clash with Ascoli striker Giacomo Beretta just five seconds into Friday night’s Week 22 fixture.

He seemed to already be unconscious mid-air when he fell very heavily on to the other side of his head.

Medics managed to stop him from going into cardiac arrest with the use of mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

He seemed to already be unconscious mid-air when he fell very heavily on to the other side of his head.

Medics managed to stop him from going into cardiac arrest with the use of mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

The 31-year-old was then rushed to hospital, where he will undergo a CT scan, although Gazzetta dello Sport reports he was heard talking soon after.

However, the game will be rescheduled for a later date after the referee granted both sides’ request of an immediate suspension.

Scavone began his career at Sudtirol before moving on to Novara, Bari, Pro Vercelli, Parma and his current club.

There was controversy because the ambulance took over three minutes to reach the player, with Lecce and Ascoli players rushing over to tear the advertising boards apart, creating a gap the vehicle so could drive through.
