Roma sporting director Monchi won’t make big changes in January – “that means you made mistakes in the summer”.

“In my first year we achieved an excellent result, but right now it’s still too early to know how it will end,” Monchi told Sky.

“I think you make the assessments at the end of the season, but I may have got some things wrong. If that happens, it’s on me.

“In fact, [President James] Pallotta told me: ‘this is your team, this is your Roma’.

“January? Everyone expects us to take three or four players who will become important, but for me you don’t change the team so much in the January window, you do little things.

“If you have to do a lot, thats means you make mistakes in the summer. The fans are right to feel that way, and particularly Roma’s, because when you’re a big team in Italy and in Europe you have to win something.

“I know that there’s never time in football, but I’m sure we’re right, because I know how I work and how those around me work.”
