Roma Coach Eusebio Di Francesco admits “we’re obliged to get three points” at home to Frosinone tomorrow.

The Giallorossi haven’t won in their last five competitive games, and with the Derby della Capitale against Lazio looming at the weekend, the tactician’s job could be under severe threat if they fail to win in midweek.

The team was placed into ritiro after the loss to Bologna, and the Coach was asked if that drew the response he wanted.

“We’ll find the answers tomorrow,” Di Francesco said at the pre-match Press conference which, despite rumours, sporting director Monchi did not attend.

“It was a ritiro that both the club and I wanted, to compose things and examine the difficulties together.

“It’ll be a similar game tomorrow, but we’ll play at home and we’re obliged to get three points.

“Strength lies in understanding why things are going the way they are and in staying together. There is one concept: I need the players and they need me.

“We’re all aware that we’re not doing well, but we’re all aware we can climb this hill.

“We haven’t done well physically or technically, we need to pull out something extra because we’re lacking consistency within matches.

“That’s how we’ll find ourselves, also pulling out what we have inside us as men.

“That’s not to say that whoever takes to the pitch against Frosinone is not a man, I just need to rediscover those who have shown difficulty in being a man.”

James Pallotta, the Giallorossi President, said he was “disgusted” by the Bologna result, does Di Francesco still feel the confidence of the owner.

“I’d have been worried if he’d been happy. Feeling confidence in this moment won’t help anything.”

Monchi has also been criticised for the summer transfer campaign…

“I think it’s an error to focus on that now,” Di Francesco responded.

“I need to work hard to try and make the best of my squad, we’ve played five games and we need to be doing a lot better than we have been.

“Talking about the transfer market when Roma go to play against Chievo and Bologna… I think this Roma has to be better than that.

“We’ll see what answers we get on the pitch and we have to keep working. I’ll never make those kind of judgements.”

Di Francesco was then asked if Edin Dzeko will play tomorrow.

“He or [Patrik] Schick will play. We’re playing the derby on Saturday and then we have the Champions League, it’s an evaluation I’ll have to make because Edin played a lot for the national team too.

“Rick Karsdorp? There was no argument. It was a purely technical choice [to leave him out against Bologna], I have three full-backs and I choose based on that.

“It’s up to the player to keep working.”
