Juventus are already working on signing a top midfielder next summer, according to reports this morning.

The Bianconeri were expected to sign a big name in the middle of the park this summer, but instead signed Ballon d’Or Cristiano Ronaldo in a €100m deal from Real Madrid.

On Friday’s transfer deadline day they released Claudio Marchisio, arguably creating a gap in the squad.

According to Tuttosport though, general manager Giuseppe Marotta and sporting director Fabio Paratici are already at work to sign a midfielder next summer.

According to Tuttosport though, general manager Giuseppe Marotta and sporting director Fabio Paratici are already at work to sign a midfielder next summer.

The three names on the shortlist are Paris Saint-Germain’s Adrien Rabiot, Paul Pogba of Manchester United and Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

Rabiot is perhaps the most attractive option, as his contract expires at the end of the season so he could sign a pre-contract deal in January before moving for only a development fee.

That is a very common Juventus approach, with Emre Can the most recent high-profile free signing.

A return for Paul Pogba is also an option though, not least as he appears to be unhappy at Old Trafford.

Club legend Paul Scholes criticised the World Cup winner for his performance against Brighton, drawing a stinging rebuke from agent Mino Raiola.
