It is reported that Maurizio Sarri could resign as Napoli boss following tension with President Aurelio De Laurentiis.

The Partenopei patron was critical of his Coach during an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport earlier in the week.

As well as citing Sarri’s preference for not operating with a larger pool of players as a reason Napoli were unable to sign certain targets – and by extension win the Scudetto – De Laurentiis said the former Empoli boss could be ‘300 better’ at his job and even discussed his possible successors.

According to the Italian daily, there are now deep divisions between the De Laurentiis and Sarri, who is said to be on the radar of teams such as Chelsea, Monaco and Borussia Dortmund.

Sarri has two years remaining on his contract with Napoli after the end of this season, but a buy-out clause in his deal means the Azzurri would be forced to allow the 59-year-old to leave for a fee of €8m.

Gazzetta cite Chelsea boss Antonio Conte and former Milan Coach Carlo Ancelotti as De Laurentiis’ prime targets to replace Sarri, while Sampdoria’s Marco Giampaolo is also in the running.
